The fact is that nearly all of these diets only really offer short-term weight loss solutions and can be extremely unhealthy. Iv&#8217;e put together a list of 5 popular fad diets &#8211; along with reasons NOT to try them!</p>
<p><strong>Detox Diet</strong><br />Claims to lose a stone in 10 days, defeat cellulite, give glowing skin and no more bloating. This diet is meant to compliment other detox methods such as massages, colonic irrigation, saunas, fasting etc. Food such as fish, meat, eggs, dairy, wheat, salt, sugar etc are banned, while fruit, veg, beans, seeds, nuts are allowed. This results in a lack of nutrients, lowered immune system, a temporary weight loss, mainly water. It can lead to yo-yo dieting, nausea, sickness and headaches. It is said to causes food cravings, resulting in eventually giving up! It can also cause eating disorders and there is no good evidence of it actually working!</p>
<p><strong>Low Carb / Atkins Diet</strong><br />The aim of low carb diets is to force the body to use its own fat as its main energy source. This produces something called ketone bodies to fuel body parts that can not use fat as an energy source such as the brain and red blood cells. This puts you in a state of ketosis &#8211; resulting in smelly breath and side effects like fatigue and nausea. These diets do produce short term results, which actually come from loss of muscle tissue and water. They are not a long term weight loss solution and are unhealthy if sustained.</p>
<p><strong>Starvation Diet</strong><br />Starving yourself is one of the worst diets that you could try. Ok, you may initially lose a lot of weight but the effect this has on your body is drastic! You will be extremely lacking much needed nutrition and this will lead to fatigue, lack of sex drive and hormones, sleep loss, possible hypothermia, poor concentration and judgement, depression, anxiety, personality changes, social withdrawal, your metabolism will dramatically slow down, you will lose organ tissue and muscles, you can get shakes, feel the cold more, and feel very week. Low calorie intakes actually slow down weight loss.</p>
<p><strong>Hollywood Diet</strong><br />This is basically a 24 or 48 hour &#8216;Juice Fast&#8217; where you eat no food in this time. This diet has the same cons as the starvation diet. You are really just losing excess water in the body with this diet and it does&#8217;nt last long, you will soon put that weight <a href="http://www.exbackv.com">back</a> on. It is expensive to buy the juice, around $25! You will get no protein or iron in the body, and will be taking lots of sugar and carbs. Tastes good at first but soon turns very sickly.</p>
<p><strong>Cabbage Soup Diet</strong><br />This is a 7 day diet plan which supposedly offers a fast weight loss solution. This is a very short term solution and is not sustainable so is&#8217;nt a viable option for long term weight loss. There are a few benefits to this diet which include fast weight loss, a healthy beneficial change from eating junk food, and research has shown that cabbage helps to prevent cancer. However, the drawbacks do outweigh these benefits somewhat significantly. The soup is high in salt, lacking in good overall nutrition &#8211; low in protein, calcium, essential fatty acids, high in sodium and MSG, requires much will <a href="http://www.power4homev.com">power</a> as the soup tastes very bland and is extremely repetitive, gives you gas!, and most of all this is not a healthy sustainable solution to long-term weight loss. This diet will most probably make you GAIN weight as it has a very low calorie intake and you can get bloated!</p>
<p>There really is no substitute for a healthy diet and regular exercise if you want to lose weight and live an overall healthier and more active lifestyle.</p>

In searching for the best diets, you should look for one that is nutritionally sound, incorporates good lifestyle changes such as exercise and upping water intake plus is simple enough that it can be easily followed by almost any person in any eating environment.</p>
<p><strong>South</strong><strong> Beach</strong><strong> Diet</strong></p>
<p>One of the most popular weight loss diets is the South Beach Diet.  It was developed by noted cardiologist Dr. Arthur Agatston during the early 2000s with the assistance of nutritionist Marie Almon.  The development of the diet was in response to the difficulties of Dr. Agatston&#8217;s patients to stay on the typical low fat diet prescribed for heart patients. The doctor found that his patients were not having the expected results from these diets.  Dr. Agatston initiated additional work in defining good carbohydrates and bad carbohydrates.  The list of foods that are preferred for cardiac <a href="http://www.manukahoneyhealth.co.uk">health</a> and weight loss is known as the glycemic index.</p>
<p><strong>Atkins Diet</strong></p>

It is a well publicized low carbohydrate, high protein diet.  Over the years, the diet plan has undergone significant modifications to improve its nutritional soundness. In short, it is a typical eating pattern for peoples living in the countries surrounding the Mediterranean Sea. These peoples tend to live longer and have a lower rate of cardiac disease than other peoples in the United States.</p>
<p><strong>Pritikin Diet</strong></p>
<p>Dr Nathan Pritikin is another creator of weight loss diets during the 1980s and 1990s.  The focus of this diet is the consumption of minimally processed foods and incorporating a healthy dose of exercise into your daily life. The diet encourages the individual to use fruits, vegetables, legumes such as black beans and pinto beans, and whole grains.  Protein is gained by the use of seafood and lean meats. Detractors feel that the diet is much too strict for most individuals so it is less popular than some of the more trendy diets. </p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>As i was pouring through TONS of research in order to produce my list of the <strong>top ten diets that</strong> <strong>work</strong>, I ran across several diets that produced super fast weight loss. I also uncovered common aspects of the diets that seemed to promote rapid weight loss. In fact, if ANY of these components were missing, the weight loss was adversely affected.</p>
<p>1) The Diets Had Minimum &#8220;Plateaus&#8221;</p>
<p>Plateaus are periods of time when the dieter is adhering to the diet plan, yet they are experiencing no weight loss. These periods of time are when individuals are most likely to stray from their diets.</p>
<p>Generally speaking, plateaus are caused by either a gradual metabolic slowdown, or water retention. The fast weight loss programs I researched, had mostly protein foods included. Protein, unlike carbohydrate, does not act as a &#8220;dam&#8221; for body fluids. Most of these diets also required dieters to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. Generally, each of the plans in the top ten diets that work, encouraged extra water consumption as well.</p>
<p>Spreading the consumption of 8 glasses of water over an entire day &#8220;primes&#8221; the kidneys to continually eliminate water, thus minimizing plateaus. These rapid weight loss diets also eliminate salt, another factor in causing fluid retention.</p>
<p>2) Exercise Is Strongly Encouraged</p>
<p>A factor in rapid weight loss is increasing metabolism. I discovered that in both the <strong>top ten</strong> <strong>diets that work,</strong> and the fast weight loss diets, exercise was strongly encouraged. Activities such as brisk walking and light weight training promote weight loss and an increase in metabolism. Exercise is also effective at minimizing plateaus.</p>
<p>3) Nutritional Supplements<br />Many of the fast weight loss diets include the use of supplements. Because these plans are frequently unbalanced nutritionally, a multi vitamin, at the very least, is encouraged. Frequently, additional amounts of B vitamins, and <a href="http://www.thenaturalyou.co.uk">vitamin</a> C are suggested, as these are lost in great amounts when the body eliminates water.</p>

In the report, Dr. Eric H. Kossoff discusses the results of testing, which show a 50% reduction of epileptic seizures in a third of the participants after only three months on the diet. </p>

<p>Epilepsy is a chronic neurological disorder that is known for it&#8217;s main symptom, seizures. The seizures come unprovoked and there is no cure, but certain medications and diet can help reduced the number of seizures in certain patients. About 50 million people have epilepsy worldwide.</p>
<p>&#13;</p>
<p>Previous studies on children show that a Ketogenic diet can help control the numbers of seizures. A Ketogenic diet, like the Atkins diet, reduces the amount of carbohydrates in your daily food intake. The goal of such diets is to ensure that 80 percent of calories are from fat instead of carbs.</p>

<p>The report stated that 30 participants spent six months on a reduced carb diet, where carbohydrates were reduced to 15 grams a day. The participants were required to have failed two other forms of anti-convulsive medicated treatment for people who have epilepsy to partake in the study. Each candidate had their meals controlled, eating mostly fatty foods like eggs, meat and heavy creams.</p>

<p>An Atkins-like diet is simple to do. There are many programs out there that are designed to reduce the number of carbohydrates you take in each day. As a diet, it is said that the reduction of carbohydrates helps people with weight loss because the diet encourages to burn more fat rather than carbs. Additional benefits, like the study on reducing seizures, has become a topic of research over recent years.</p>

<p>What Happened In The Study?</p>

<p>Roughly two thirds of the candidates described a reduction in the number of seizures. Nearly half of the patients continued the diet after the study was over as a method of controlling the seizures. The studies revealed that patients needed to stay on the diet in order to continue getting the results. </p>

<p>Is it promising? Yes, however, the results also showed that the diet wasn&#8217;t so easy to follow. 30% of the patients stopped the diet, even when they had reduced seizures, because they claimed the diet was too tough to continue. The research into linking diets as a form of treatment is still relatively new. Still, studies like this one are showing how following a healthy diet can help, even after other treatments are unsuccessful. </p>

<p>Doctors Suggest Making Diets Easier To Follow</p>

<p>According to doctors involved in the study, an Atkins or Ketogenic diet can be simplified to make it easier for consumers to follow. They suggested one could find a diet that is less restrictive and without the need of a supervising dietitian. </p>

<p>One of the most popular requests I receive from my personal training clients is to help them find crash diets that work. Most of them are aware that care has to be taken when going on any diet, much less a crash diet. Many of my clients have had little or no success with traditional diet programs, so I point them in the direction of crash diets by giving them these 3 tips.</p>
<p>1) Participate In Online Forums</p>
<p>Finding online forums that focus on weight loss is very simple to do. Simply type &#8220;forums&#8221; and &#8220;weight loss&#8221;, in to the Google search box. Literally hundreds of online forums will appear on the organic listings pages. Definitely, concentrate your efforts on the organic listings, which appear on the left hand side of the search results. The search results on the right hand side are for paid advertising.</p>
<p>Read the search results listings, and simply start investigating forums that seem interesting to you. When you discover a suitable forum, introduce yourself and mention that you are interested in crash diets that work. You will probably have to start a new thread, which is a new topic for members to post threads on.</p>
<p>2) Rely On &#8220;Good Ole&#8221; Google Again!</p>
<p>This time, however, you are going to type in either &#8220;crash diets that work&#8221;, or &#8220;crash diets reviews&#8221;. Another possibility is to perform a search on &#8220;new diets.&#8221;</p>
